A little about the compost
Making compost here at the farm is a carefully managed process. Each pile is brought up to temperatures between 131 and 160 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 consecutive days, the range needed to knock out weed seeds and potential pathogens. I really take its temperature every day.
After that phase, the piles are turned five times, about every 10 to 15 days, to pull oxygen through the material and keep everything breaking down evenly.
By the end of the process, what you get back is what farmers like to call black gold. Rich organic matter that is ready to head straight into garden beds.
If your soil could use a little love this spring, come on by and grab a scoop.
Of course, if you have any questions feel free to reach out.
Happy Spring!
Cheers,
Rach + Aki
