U-Pick Orchard
Come Pick With Us
U-Pick at Blue Heron Farm is about more than filling a bucket with fruit. It is about slowing down, walking the orchard, and reconnecting with where food actually comes from.
Our orchard is meant to be experienced. You are invited to wander beneath the trees, taste fruit at its peak, and spend time in a place that is actively being cared for. This is not a rushed operation or a polished attraction. It is a working farm, and you are welcome here.
What You Can Expect
When you arrive for U-Pick, you will check in at the farm stand. We will let you know what is ripe that week, where to go, and how to pick with care so the trees stay healthy for seasons to come.
From there, you are free to explore. Walk the rows. Let kids lead the way. Pick fruit straight from the tree and taste as you go. You might hear birds overhead, see chickens moving through the orchard, or cross paths with someone harvesting nearby.
The experience is relaxed and seasonal. What is available changes week by week depending on weather and ripeness. That is part of the beauty of it.
What We Grow
Our orchard is home to a wide range of fruit that ripens throughout the growing season. Depending on the time of year, U-Pick may include apples, peaches, pears, Asian pears, plums, apricots, and other seasonal fruit.
We always share what is available when you arrive at the farm stand or we also post it online. Not every fruit is available every week, and quantities can vary. We encourage you to come curious rather than attached to a specific item.
Picking With Care
This orchard is a long term investment in this land and this community. We ask all U-Pick visitors to help us care for it.
Please stay within marked areas, follow posted guidance, and treat the trees with care.
If you have questions while picking, ask. We are happy to help.
A Place for Families and Friends
U-Pick days often feel like a gathering. Kids exploring, friends linger between rows, conversations happen naturally when hands are busy and phones are put away.
You do not need to rush. Bring water, wear shoes you do not mind getting dusty, and plan to spend some time here. Many people come for fruit and leave feeling like they got something more.
When to Visit
U-Pick is offered seasonally and is dependent on fruit availability and weather. Dates and times change throughout the year and are always posted ahead of time.
We recommend checking our website or social media before coming out to confirm what is available and when U-Pick is open.
Why U-Pick Matters Here
U-Pick is one of the ways we keep this farm connected to the people it feeds. It shortens the distance between grower and eater and reminds us that food is not abstract. It comes from soil, water, time, and care.
When you pick here, you are supporting local agriculture, helping maintain a working orchard, and becoming part of the story of this place.
We are glad to share it with you.
General U-Pick
Harvest Timeline
Fruit ripens on its own schedule, shaped by weather, water, and the pace of the season. This guide gives a general sense of when different fruits are typically ready to pick here at Blue Heron Farm. Timing can shift each year.
Apricots
Mid-June through July
Apricots are often the first fruit of the season. They ripen quickly and have a short picking window, so when they are ready, it is best to come early.
Plums
Late July through August
Plums follow apricots and tend to come on fast, with a concentrated harvest period.
Peaches
Late June through September
Peaches ripen in waves, with peak season through August and into early fall.
Nectarines
Late July through August
Nectarines overlap closely with peaches and are typically available for a shorter window.
Donut Peaches
July
Donut peaches come and go in a flash of an eye but are a seasonal favorite!
Pears
September-ish
European pears are picked while still firm and allowed to ripen off the tree. We provide guidance on when they are ready to pick.
Asian Pears
August through October
Asian pears are picked ripe from the tree and often extend later into the season.
Apples
July through October
Apples carry the orchard into fall, with early, mid, and late varieties ripening throughout the season.
We encourage visitors to come curious and seasonal rather than attached to a specific fruit. Nature sets the schedule, and part of the joy of U-Pick is meeting the orchard where it is that week..
